# Pixel Usage

Double-click **PixelUsage.exe**. A small floating Windows widget shows the remaining Codex usage available to your signed-in ChatGPT account.

- Automatically reads usage once per minute; click **REFRESH** or press **F5** for an immediate update.
- **PIN ON/OFF** toggles always on top. Drag the title to move; position and pin choice are remembered.
- Drag any edge or corner to resize. Text, meters, and buttons scale together, keeping their proportions. Size is remembered when you reopen the widget; the minimum size is 288 by 261 pixels.
- **_** minimizes to the taskbar. **X** exits. Run the executable again to reopen.
- Cyan and purple segmented bars show **remaining**, not used, capacity. Low capacity turns amber.
- Missing values display `--%`. Failed refreshes retain the last reading and mark it **STALE**. An elapsed reset never assumes the allowance has replenished.

Requires Windows with .NET Framework 4.8 and a signed-in Codex installation. No installer, API key, paid API requests, browser scraping, model calls, or scheduled tasks. Reads `account/rateLimits/read` through the installed Codex app server; authentication is handled by Codex. No credentials are copied or logged. Only window position, size, and pin preference are stored alongside the executable.

This reads the account's Codex quota, not a separate general ChatGPT chat-message allowance. Currently shows the `codex` bucket's primary and secondary windows; if the service supplies only another bucket, that bucket is named in the widget. Other concurrent model buckets are not shown.

If offline, open Codex, check your sign-in, and click REFRESH. Hover REFRESH for the error. The widget retries automatically. Keep the folder in a writable location so preferences can be saved. It does not start at Windows login.

Public release 1.0.0 from https://vonkerz.com/experiments/pixel-usage/. Contains PixelUsage.exe and README.txt only. Source is private. Independent experimental app; not affiliated with OpenAI. This executable is unsigned.
